1 Dead In Police-Involved Shooting In West Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A male suspect is dead following a police-involved shooting in West Philadelphia Wednesday night.

The incident happened at about 6:30 p.m. on the 5600 block of Wyalusing Avenue.

Philadelphia Police say they responded to a call for two men armed with guns at the intersection of Wyalusing Avenue and N. Fraizer Street. When police arrived, they say both men had guns in their hands.

Police say when the suspects saw them arrive, they fled on foot.

Authorities say one of men ran into the 5600 block of Wyalusing Avenue where he was struck by a car.

Police say the suspect pointed his gun at police and an officer fired a shot, striking the suspect once in the chest.

He was rushed to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania by police where he was later pronounced dead.

Police say the deceased suspect has not been identified at this time, but he is believed to be in his early twenties.

According to authorities, the suspect's loaded black semi-automatic hand gun was recovered at the scene.

Police say the second suspect is believed to be in custody.

The second handgun has not yet been recovered, but police canine were retracing the area.

There were no injuries to police or civilians.
