MN Teen Whose Song Topped iTunes Chart Laid To Rest
STILLWATER, Minn. (WCCO) -- A Stillwater High School student, whose song recently landed at the top of the list of the top-selling singles on iTunes, is being laid to rest Thursday.
Zach Sobiech died of bone cancer on Monday. He was 18 years old.
Sobiech's funeral began at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Church of St. Michael in Stillwater.
"Clouds," the song he wrote as a farewell, hit number one on iTunes on Wednesday, passing artists with million-dollar record deals. That's a first for a musician with no support from a major label and no previous album.
Proceeds from the song will go to children's cancer research and to Zach's family. When all is said and done, Scott Herold -- founder of Sobiech's nonprofit record label Rock the Cause -- thinks "Clouds" will raise tens of thousands of dollars for osteosarcoma and children's cancer research.
