Several More Chances For Snow In Next Few Weeks

BOSTON (CBS) - I wish I could tell you that was it, the last hurrah in a snow blitz to finish this winter…but I cannot…not by a long-shot. I believe we will have several chances for snow in the next few weeks, the first of which is coming in just two days, on Thursday.

Late on Wednesday, a storm system will exit out of the Gulf of Mexico and blow up into a major storm over the open Atlantic, way, way to our south, I am talking near Bermuda. However, this is where things get tricky. Today's storm is actually going to loop north into Maine and then drift westward over Canada…this backwards motion will actually pinwheel some energy in the upper levels up the atmosphere from the Midwest to our south and this will capture a piece of that Bermuda storm and draw a band of snow back towards Southern New England.

Sounds confusing right? So what does this mean? More snow.

Some light flurries will break out near the Coast during Thursday and a band of snow will likely setup by evening right near the Massachusetts Coastline. This band will be orientated from north to south and cause snow to fall most of Thursday night.

This time, inland locations will see very little if any snowfall…just some passing flurries. But, the Coastline from I-95 eastward, including Boston, may be under the gun for more accumulating snow.

While it is still a bit too early to get real specific, early estimates would be anywhere from a coating to a few inches along the North Shore to Boston, down to the South Shore. The "jackpot" is most likely going to be over Cape Cod where several inches are likely, perhaps as much as 5 or 6"!

It may take until Friday midday or afternoon before the last snow flurries exit the Coastline.

And then, if that isn't enough, we will be watching yet another storm which will make a close pass to our south early next week (Monday night/Tuesday timeframe). They hits just keep on coming, with no obvious end in sight just yet.
