Reported Explosion, Apartment Fire Injures Two In Camden County

HADDON HEIGHTS, N.J. (CBS) — Authorities say at least two people were injured in a fire that started after an apparent explosion at an apartment home in Camden County, New Jersey.

The incident happened around 4 p.m. at a three-story house along the 100 block of White Horse Pike in Haddon Heights.

Witnesses who live nearby say they heard a loud explosion and that the subsequent fire destroyed the home in a matter of minutes.

"Everyone came running out all of the buildings, looking for smoke to see what was going on," said resident Jeff Taylor. "We all ran over and we saw the smoke, debris everywhere out front. It was clearly like a big bomb. The front half of the house was already collapsed before it even went up in flames."

Two people were hospitalized. The extent of their injuries was not immediately known.

Fire officials say six people lived in the house, which was converted into a five unit apartment building.

Firefighters remained on scene Saturday night.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
