Long Beach Police Shoot, Kill Suspect Allegedly Firing Gun In Public

LONG BEACH (CBSLA.com) —  Long Beach Police shot and killed a suspect who they said had been firing a gun in public.

Officials received a call about a man firing a weapon at Anaheim Street and Magnolia Avenue -- near a Shell Gas station -- around 6 p.m., according to Sgt. Aaron Eaton of the Long Beach Police Department.

Police arrived on scene and fired at the man but the circumstances surrounding the actual shooting are unclear. It is also not known if the suspect fired his weapon at police.

The suspect was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.

The man's identity was not disclosed. Authorities said the man was in his 30s.

Long Beach Homicide Detectives are at the location investigating the shooting.

Ruby Perez, a witness to the shooting, told KCAL9's Adrianna Weingold the suspect didn't appear to be holding anything when police shot him.

"The guy seemed to have no weapons in his hands," she said, "he was walking freely, open-handed. Two officers started shooting at the gentleman, and they hit him, about four times."

Police told Weingold they recovered a weapon at the scene.
