Fire Damages Large Market In Glassell Park

GLASSELL PARK (CBSLA.com) — A fire Sunday night destroyed a 5,000-square-foot market, officials said.

The fire broke out just before 9 p.m. at the Verdugo Rancho Supermarket in the 3300 block of North Verdugo Road in Glassell Park, the Los Angeles Fire Department said.

More than 120 firefighters worked for two hours to extinguish the blaze and keep it from spreading to nearby buildings.

The structure was a total loss due to severe damage to the market's walls and roof, fire officials said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation. A damage estimate was not available.

One firefighter suffered a minor injury to his eye, but he was treated on scene and released.
