Man Shot To Death Inside South Street Ice Cream Shop

By John McDevitt

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia police are searching for two men they say shot and killed a man inside an ice cream shop near 2nd and South Streets.

Police say they received a 911 call around 3:30 Saturday morning saying a robbery was in progress and shots were fired inside the Haagen-Dazs Ice Cream shop at 242 South Street.

Officials say when officers arrived they found 36-year-old Tom Watson on the floor suffering from several gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Some people passing the closed shop Saturday afternoon were saddened to hear about the murder, but not too surprised.

"You hear about gun violence in Philly all of the time, one passerby said. "It almost stops mattering where it is when it happens. Its just like another person got shot in Philly."

Police describe the suspects as two men in dark hooded sweat shirts. No further description is available at this time.

The investigation continues.
