'Have A Good Night': 'Apologetic Bandit' Makes Return In OC Robbery

MISSION VIEJO (CBSLA.com) — An unusually remorseful robbery suspect has struck again in Orange County, authorities said Friday.

KNX 1070's Mike Landa reports Orange County Sheriff's officials were asking the public for help in identifying the suspect following a report of an armed robbery early Friday morning in the city of Mission Viejo.

At approximately 3:26 a.m., the suspect entered the Arco gas station on Crown Valley Parkway near the Santa Ana (5) Freeway with a small, black handgun and robbed the business of an unknown amount of cash, authorities said.

Orange County Sheriff's Lt. Jeff Hallock said during the robbery, the suspect was apologetic and told the clerk to "Have a good night" as he left the business.

"He didn't say, 'I'm sorry', but you can hear him in the video tell the clerk that he doesn't really want to do that, makes comments like that," Hallock said.

The suspect was described as male, 5'7", between 20-22 years old with a small build wearing all black clothing, a black mask with glasses on the outside and black converse shoes. He was last seen leaving the business on foot and no vehicle was seen, according to authorities.

Investigators believe a suspect fitting a similar description previously committed robberies of at least four other gas stations and convenience stores in Laguna Hills, Mission Viejo and San Clemente.

In each of the previous robberies, the suspect clothing description was identical and he has been apologetic or extremely polite to the clerk.

Anyone with information regarding this suspect is asked to call the Orange County Sheriff's Department at (714) 647-7000. Anonymous tips may also be submitted to Orange County Crime Stoppers at 855-TIP-OCCS (855-847-6227) or at occrimestoppers.org.
