VENICE (CBSLA.com) — A video has surfaced of a vicious attack on a man along the Venice Beach boardwalk.

A nearby resident recorded the incident at around 4 a.m. Friday.

Two young men are seen beating another man, who Los Angeles police say could be an acquaintance. They say the attack appears to be unprovoked.

One of the suspects continuously whacked the victim, crouched on the boardwalk, with a collapsible beach chair.

"It was a vicious attack, obviously, and appeared to be unprovoked. And, certainly, we want to capture the individual involved," LAPD Capt. Brian Johnson said. "It certainly was a very violent attack."

The two suspects fled before officers arrived.

The victim suffered severe lacerations and a broken arm.

Detectives urge anyone who finds themselves in that kind of a situation to call 911.

Anyone with information about the incident was asked to contact the LAPD Pacific Division.
