KPIX 5 Poll: San Franciscans Grumpier About State Of City; Mayor Lee Approval Ratings Drop
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – San Franciscans are approaching the end of 2014 a bit grumpier about the current state of affairs in the city as compared to a couple of years ago, and may be casting some blame on Mayor Ed Lee, according to the results of an exclusive poll.
A SurveyUSA poll commissioned for KPIX 5 shows 47 percent of respondents say the quality of life in the city is getting worse, up from 31 percent when the same question was asked in March of 2013.
At the time, respondents also said the city was heading in the right direction by a 2-to-1 margin, versus a near 50-50 split today.
In addition, Mayor Lee's job approval rating has ebbed to 47 percent approving, along with 35 percent disapproving and 18 percent not sure. The last time SurveyUSA measured Lee's approval rating was in December of 2011, and respondents at the time gave him a 61 percent approve vs. 24 percent disapprove.
When asked which was the biggest problem facing San Francisco, the cost of owning a home topped the responses by far - 44 percent – compared to 17 percent for homelessness, 10 percent education, and 8 percent crime.
SurveyUSA interviewed 500 San Franciscans between Dec. 1 and 3 and the poll has a margin of error of 4.5 percent.
