Plague Discovered In Mule Deer In Colorado Springs
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4) - El Paso County health officials confirm a new case of the plague in Colorado Springs.
The disease was discovered in a mule deer.
The health department says the disease is usually spread by fleas and is most common in prairie dogs, rabbits and squirrels.
It's believed 16-year-old Taylor Gaes of Larimer County got the plague from infected fleas. Gaes died earlier this month of a dangerous form of plague that invades the bloodstream called septicemic plague.
