Survey: Almost 20% Of Americans Aren't Saving Any Of Their Income

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A new survey reveals Americans aren't doing a very good job of saving their income.

The Bankrate survey says that roughly half of all Americans save five-percent or less of their incomes.

That includes the 18-percent who say they aren't saving anything.

Bankrate's chief financial analyst says you should try to save 15-percent of your income for retirement savings, emergency funds and other factors.

The survey reveals only about one in seven people currently saves more than 15-percent, and fewer than one in four are saving more than 10-percent.

Interestingly, middle class Americans are the best at saving their money -- even better than those with the highest incomes.
