(CBS) -- Two nephews of State Senator Mattie Hunter were among the victims of Chicago's violent Fourth of July weekend, her office confirmed to CBS 2.

John Hunter, 25, and his brother Willie, 31, were killed when someone walked up to the SUV they were sitting in and opened fire on Sunday morning in the 8800 block of South Bishop in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood, according to authorities.

John was transported to Christ Hospital and later pronounced dead. Willie was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the Cook County medical examiner, the brothers are from Jefferson City, Mo. and were in town visiting friends over the holiday.

State Senator Hunter has represented Illinois' 3rd District since 2003.

In a statement from the Illinois Legislative Black Caucus, State Senator Kimberly Lightford said, "There are no words that can express the sorrow of losing loved ones, especially those so young and full of life. We can only imagine how tragic and overwhelming this must be for Senator Hunter and her family."

A visitation for John and Willie Hunter is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, July 10 at Gatling's Chapel, 10133 S Halsted St., Chicago. The wake will take place on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. with the funeral following at 12:30 p.m.
