Cell Phone 'Gun Cases' Illegal In Chicago

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Carrying a phone case that looks like a gun is now illegal in Chicago.

The City Council on Wednesday approved an ordinance that bans the so-called "trigger case" for mobile phones.

At a Finance Committee hearing earlier this week, Dean Angelo, President of the Fraternal Order of Police told aldermen a ban is needed because there are times when young people have died when police officers thought replica guns were real.

The cases are sold on the Internet right now.

Violators could be fined up to $750.
