Weather, A Good Cause Team Up For Memorable Marathon In San Francisco

KPIX 5 Morning Weather Anchor Roberta Gonzales answers the questions you never get to ask on-air.

Q: Hey Roberta, congratulations on running the 39th Annual  San Francisco marathon. What was your favorite part of the run? - Kevin Burke, Oakland

A: All of it! I loved every step of the way!

Oh what a day it was! It was my third time running the San Francisco Marathon, and the third time was a charm! The weather was perfect at 64 degrees and overcast skies. It was a perfect day for 25,000 runners taking place in the 5K, Half Marathon and the Full Marathon. So I recruited three of my buddies and we had a mission to accomplish!

Our course had us beginning at Golden Gate Park. We ran pass Buffalo in the Park, onto the Haight and through the streets of San Francisco, ending 13.1 miles later, at the Finish Line located at Justin Herman Plaza along the Embarcadero. Along the journey, I loved seeing families lined up on the sidewalks cheering on all the Runners! It inspired me!

Another inspiration, Generation Alive. It is the charismatic charity I was running for, bringing awareness to an innovative group of volunteers.

Generation Alive Founder, San Francisco Founder Jeremy Affeldt is an avid speaker on youth issues. He uses his platform as a Professional Athlete, to encourage teenagers and college students to dream big.

And how does Generation Alive do that? Through Education and Projects. Generation Alive offers motivational, creative assemblies ad classroom presentation which offer education on a specific area related to poverty. Through education, students learn how to make a difference in the life of someone else locally or around the world. Projects include the students working with their hands and their minds. If the subject is poverty, the students may pack thousands of meals.

Generation Alive is all about moving a generation to act. They do this by working with schools, churches, sports teams and various youth organizations to make change in their community.

So, that's why my buddies and I woke up at 4:30am, on our day off from work to run the San Francisco Marathon on Sunday. It was all about giving the next generation a voice, while my generation used our legs and feet!

I would love to hear from you! Please send weather questions, observations and photos to me, Gonzales@kpix.cbs.com and I look forward to hearing from you!
