Xochimilco is known for its huge portions and is located in the Mexicantown area of Detroit. It's not the newest restaurant on the block, but has quality Mexican food, such as tacos and enchiladas, and margaritas are also one of its specialties. Its chips and salsa are also renowned, and the locals call the restaurant "sochi's" (Xochi's). Street parking is available nearby.

Just down the street from Xochimilco is the Mexican Village Restaurant, the oldest restaurant in Mexicantown. Its known for its "Caldo Can-cun" (spicy rice soup with avocado, topped with cheese), burritos, steaks and desserts made in-house, such as flan, sopapillas (deep-fried pastries) and French-fried ice cream. The restaurant is known for its margaritas, as well, which would be great to imbibe in to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. It also has a second location in Utica, located on Van Dyke.

If you're willing to venture a bit from the city, Sabor Latino in Ann Arbor is a great place to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. If you go on Taco Tuesdays, you can grab tacos for $1 each, which is a bargain, as well as $2.50 tequila shots, Corona and Corona Light beer. Taco toppings are 50 cents to $1.50 extra. Armando's, also located in Mexicantown, is known for being the place to party on Cinco de Mayo. In 2013, the restaurant had a patio party with $6 margaritas, and it serves unlimited chips and salsa all day every day - it's also known for its hot/spicy salsa. Armando's has a lunch buffet, but if you come for dinner, order the fajitas - they're served sizzling hot with Spanish rice, beans, sour cream, guacamole and pica de gallo.
