Watch: Javy Baez Swung So Hard At An Aroldis Chapman Fastball That He Fell Down

(CBS) Cubs infielder Javier Baez stepped up to the plate Wednesday afternoon as the tying run in the ninth inning against hard-throwing Reds closer Aroldis Chapman.

Both Baez and the Wrigley Field faithful had the same idea in mind: He could tie the game with one swing of the bat.

Baez certainly tried. In his attempt to square up a 99-mph Chapman fastball, Baez took a cut so vicious that he himself fell over when he didn't make contact. Shortly after, he grounded into a fielder's choice and the Cubs would fall 7-4.

Check out Baez's prodigous swing below. It doesn't look like he's cut down on the swing much that led to strikeout problems in his first big league stint, which came in the last two months of the 2014 season before he was recalled Tuesday as rosters expanded for September.
