Boy Shot While Riding Bike In Dorchester Made Honorary Police Officer

BOSTON (CBS) -- He was just out riding his bike when he was hit by a stray bullet last month in Dorchester.

Now, 7-year-old Divan Silva is being honored for pulling through. In a ceremony on Sunday, Silva was made an honorary junior Boston police officer.

He was greeted at a Dorchester restaurant by dozens of police officers who have taken him under their wing.

"We want the good to overtake the bad," said Officer Moose Monteiro.

Monteiro says he wants Silva to know that many people care about him.

"We hope to adopt this kid going forward, maybe he'll be a police officer and come to work with us one day," Montiero said.

The boy is currently living in a Brockton shelter with his mother, who said Sunday was a great day.
