Fire Spreads From Vacant Building To Neighboring Home In Back Of The Yards

(CBS) -- A family of four was forced out on the street when a fire in a neighboring building spread to their home.

The fire department says it got the call around 1:30 a.m. Saturday. Authorities say the fire began in a two story vacant apartment building and spread to two other buildings.

One was also empty, but the other housed four people. The homeowners say this is not the first time that building has caught fire.

"We heard noises, plywood being torn out of the building and we saw smoke coming out," said homeowner Raul Galvin. "It is very frustrating. This is the third time. It is supposed to be torn down and it hasn't been done."

No one was injured in the fire and so far, there is no word on when the family can return home.
