Woman, Three Children Hurt By Illegal Fireworks In Elgin

(STMW) -- A woman and three children were hurt by illegal fireworks Saturday night in northwest suburban Elgin.

The 38-year-old woman and three children were walking away from the city's fireworks display near Wellington Avenue and National Street when they were struck by illegal fireworks, according to a statement from Elgin police.

The woman suffered burns to her leg, neck and face, police said. A 4-year-old girl's foot and leg were burned, a 10-year-old boy suffered burns to his hand and a 15-year-old boy was burned in his leg.

They were all taken to Presence Saint Joseph Hospital or Advocate Sherman Hospital with minor injuries, police said. All four were expected to be treated and released.
