Lana Del Rey Vinyl Mix-Up Brings Baltimore Band National Attention

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A big mistake is getting a local Baltimore band national attention.

Mike Schuh reports, the five members of the band Wildhoney couldn't pay for the kind of exposure they're now receiving.

Zach Inscho and Alan Everhart both have day jobs.

"I bar tend at places that don't fire you for going on tour," Everhart said.

Going on tour is what musicians do and indeed, these two and three friends formed a band.

"There's five of us and we're called Wildhoney," said Everhart.

So far all of their 4 record have been pressed into old-fashioned vinyl.

"It's noisy, loud, Indie pop," he said.

In just a few years they've gone from performing for 10 people in Hamden to national tours.

"In July, we were out on the West Coast," said Inscho.

But something happened to put them in Billboard, Vice and even on NPR.

Lana Del Rey is a pretty big start. One of her records was recently re-released on vinyl but there was a problem.

"The A side of our LP got pressed on her record," said Inscho.

That's right -- 10,000 Lana Del Ray records are half Wildhoney.

"It turned out that a lot of people actually like it," he added.

"I thought it was hilarious and awesome," said DJ Matt Galler, of WTMD. Galler plays Wildhoney on his radio show.

"You can't buy this kind of press you know," he added. "This was about as perfect of a mix up as you could get. I just like to see this kind of thin, happen to a band that's so good."

They're getting more interest now and maybe this will lead to a big, breakout hit.

"Yeah, we'll do Baltimore proud," said Everhart.

On October 18th at the Ottobar, the band is having a party for the release of their new record. After that they head out on national tour.
