Teen Web Gurus Help Chicago Businesses Grow

(CBS) -- What were you doing at 16? Running your own business? Building an enterprise?

That's what a group of high-schoolers are doing in Chicago's Rogers Park neighborhood.

CBS 2's Audrina Bigos reports.

The goal at restaurant Dona Chio is to make customers happy. But owners would also like to grow their business.

That's where Webcreators come in. The members build and maintain websites, meeting with clients and consulting on social media, Google Analytics and advertising. The group members speak 10 different languages between them.

"We know how these social media websites work and to reach different people," Ramsha Essa says.

Like Dona Chia, 60 percent of Rogers Park businesses do not have a functioning website.

The students at the Chicago Math and Science Academy are trained by professionals through the company Lumity. All students are paid $10 an hour.

The businesses pay a small fee, about one-third of what web development agencies charge.
