Yankees Get Last Word In Twitter Spat With Mets

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Don't mess with the New York Yankees.

The Bombers took care of business against the crosstown rival Mets both on the field in the Bronx, where they won the rubber game of the Subway Series, and on social media Sunday night.

The team -- or whoever runs its Twitter account -- was apparently irked by the Mets repeatedly referring to the franchise as "NY (AL)" during the series finale. The Bombers responded and the Amazin's came back with a haymaker. But the knockout punch went to NY (AL) -- er, the Yankees -- who reminded its National League counterpart who's boss, at least until the clubs meet again in September.

The Yankees (11-8) put an end to the Mets' franchise-record-tying 11-game winning streak on Friday night. They rebounded from a loss on Saturday to take the finale 6-4 and have now won eight of 10 games.

The Mets, despite losing two of three, still have baseball's best record at 14-5.
