Bon Appétit's List Of Best New Restaurants Has 3 From Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- If you've eaten at Hola Arepa, Spoon and Stable or Heyday in recent months, you've sampled one of the nation's best new restaurants.

According to Bon Appétit magazine, all three are among the 50 best new places to get a meal throughout the nation.

This represents another in a long string of national notices for Spoon and Stable in particular. Earlier this year, the restaurant and its chef/owner Gavin Kaysen were nominated for the prestigious James Beard Award. And in June, it was named one of the five most exciting new U.S. restaurants in Food and Wine Magazine.

Kaysen grew up in Bloomington but spent the last several years working at a critically acclaimed restaurant in New York City.

Bon Appétit enthused, "every detail feels attended to, from the wafer-thin wine glasses to the slab of marble on which the whipped butter arrives to the chic black and white–upholstered dining room chairs. The overall effect is less Minnesotan than cosmopolitan."

Of Hola Arepa, which went from being a food truck to an establishment along Nicollet Avenue's "Eat Street," the magazine praised its take on the Venezuelan stuffed arepas, along with the their "creamy yucca fries" and "rollicking patio."

And of Heyday, which is located along Lyndale Avenue, the magazine said "every bite feels like a discovery." They highly recommended the lamb tartare and the chilled blue mussels.

If you're keeping score, the tally of three Minneapolis restaurants beat out the two cited from Chicago and the one each from Detroit, Cleveland and Indianapolis. No other Midwestern restaurants were nominated.

New York and San Francisco each had six restaurants nominated.
