Marlins Reportedly Consider Barry Bonds As Hitting Coach
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – Former San Francisco Giant and baseball's all-time home run leader Barry Bonds is reportedly being considered as a hitting coach for the Miami Marlins.
According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, higher-ups in the Marlins organization have been "discussing the possibility for weeks" of having Bonds as a hitting coach.
Heyman said Bonds would be the second hitting coach for the Marlins. Hitting coach Frank Menechino is expected to return.
In recent years, Bonds has been a special instructor for the Giants during spring training. The 50-year-old slugger last played in 2007, shortly after breaking the home run record.
The Marlins had a 71-91 record in the 2015 season. Miami has recently hired former Dodgers manager Don Mattingly to manage the team in 2016.
