Study: L.A. Has Worst Traffic In America
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Once again, Los Angeles tops the list for having the worst traffic in America, according to a study released Tuesday.
The L.A. metro area was ranked as the nation's most congested region with motorists spending an average of 81 hours sitting still on the road in 2015.
According to the study by INRIX Inc., the top five most congested cities are:
- Los Angeles
- Washington, D.C.
- San Francisco
- Houston
- New York City
The study also identified the top 10 worst stretches of roadway across the globe. Four of them are in L.A.:
- 101 Freeway from Topanga Canyon boulevard to Vignes Street
- 101 Freeway between the 60 Freeway and Haskell Avenue
- 10 Freeway between 20th and Alameda Streets
- 5 Freeway between Cesar Chavez and Valley View Avenues
Nationally, motorists spent a total of 8 billion hours stuck in traffic in 2015, the reports says.
The report found that an improving economy is a major factor in increased congestion as more people commute to work.
Globally, Los Angeles ranks second on the congestion list, behind only London, which averaged 101 hours of delay per motorist.
The INRIX study is based on traffic speed data collected on more than 1.3 million miles of urban streets and highways.
