Bay Area Hip Hop Artist Running For President Would Legalize Marijuana, Make Education Free

RICHMOND (KPIX 5) -- A hip hop artist from the Bay Area is out to give Donald Trump a run for his money.

"I'm the youngest to legally run for president in the history of the United States of America," said Deon Jenkins.

The 35-year-old free-styling Richmond resident recently changed his name to "Hip Hop For President."

"The reason why I'm changing my name is so I can stand out on a ballot," he said..

He just filed his FEC paperwork and should have no problems standing out based strictly on his platform, which is hip hop.

His plan for his first day in office?

"I'm gonna legalize marijuana," Jenkins said.

His campaign song is a Trump diss called Giant Slayer.

Jenkins said he wants to challenge Trump on the national stage and share his plan for free education and reparations for descendants of slaves. One problem -- at least one polling agency told him is he'd need three percent of the national vote to get in on a debate. He says he's working on it.

"I might be the next president of the United States if I make that debate," he says. "I'm very confident."
