Dog-Walker In Abuse Video Charged With Animal Cruelty

(CBS) – A 39-year-old Chicago man who ran a dog-walking business has been charged with a misdemeanor for allegedly abusing an animal in surveillance video that went viral this week.

Jonathan Stenholt faces one count of cruelty to animals, the Chicago Police Department said.  Stenholt was arrested Thursday after an investigation by the department's Animal Crimes Team, officials said.

He is expected to appear in city court July 1.

Stenholt is believed to be the man seen in surveillance video abusing a dog in his care Tuesday morning, police said. The video from a building in the 100 block of North Des Plaines Street shows a man stepping on the paw of a beagle puppy before he kicks the animal. The tape went viral, prompting outrage.

Stenholt, who ran Alone at Home Pet Care, has not responded to inquiries from CBS 2, but reportedly sent an email to clients of his former business expressing remorse for what occurred.
