Red Cross Urges Travelers To Put Blood Donation On Holiday To-Do List

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- The American Automobile Association (AAA) estimated that 98 million Americans would travel more than 50 miles during the holiday season, and Airlines for America is predicting that 25.3 million passengers will fly during a 12-day period around Thanksgiving -- the highest number since the Great Recession in 2008.

This means that the holiday season will undoubtedly be busy, and the American Red Cross is expecting fewer donors to take the time to give blood or platelets.

The Red Cross is asking all eligible donors to consider putting blood or platelet donation on their holiday to-do list. By doing so, many hospital patients would then be able to spend time with their families at home.

They're offering a few holiday themed presents for those who donate during this busy time, such as a limited-edition Red Cross mixing spoon and unique recipes from celebrity chefs.

To make an appointment, download the free Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit their website or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
