Guide To Angel Stadium of Anaheim

Home of the "Rally Monkey" and dubbed the "Big A," Angel Stadium of Anaheim is the official stadium of the Los Angeles Angels. Founded in 1966, the stadium is anything but old after going through its own Hollywood-esque facelift and becoming the seventh major league ballpark to host the MLB all-star game for the third time in 2010.

Metro
You'll be happy to know that Metrolink runs special trains for all weekday home games that start at 7:05pm for just $7 roundtrip ($6 for seniors or those who are disabled and $4 for youth aged 6-18). You can even get 50% off select Angels game tickets by riding the Angels Express train. The train will take you directly to the stadium's parking lot, which is right across the street from the stadium and just a short walk. Tickets are available at the station, by calling (800) 371-LINK. Tickets are available for sale on game days from the ticket machines located at the station platform on the OC line stations (Monday - Friday) and the Inland Empire-OC line stations (Fridays only).

Driving
If you're planning on getting to Angel Stadium by car, there are a variety of different ways to get to the game. Depending on where you're coming from, these directions will help you get there fast so you can make it just in time to enjoy the great food and action of the game.

By Bus
Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) routes 50, 57, 430 and 757 will take you to Anaheim Station. Orange County residents should call 636-RIDE; outside of the OC call 800-636-RIDE. Greyhound also offers service to Anaheim. Call (714) 999-1257 or check their website for more information.

Parking
When it comes to any stadium, there are several options when it comes to parking. And, Angel Stadium isn't any different. The Stadium offers a massive parking lot right next to the stadium which you can enter either by Douglass Road, State College Boulevard or Orangewood Avenue. Cost is very reasonable, just $10 for regular sized cars and $20 for oversized (greater than 20 feet in length). The ample parking here makes coming and going a pretty easy process. Parking lots are only open two and a half hours before game time. Season ticket holders with parking coupons should use the Express Entry Lane on Orangewood Avenue.

Tips

• If you take the metro to the stadium, you can avoid traffic and parking fees as most of the stations offer free parking
• For night games, try the area across from Orangewood Ave. as you may be able to get free street parking
• For those that park at the stadium, enter the lot via State College Blvd. and park in the front as you can generally be out of the lot in less than 10 minutes after the end of a game.
• If you leave before the end of the game, you can be sure to avoid most of the traffic and waiting to exit the parking lot.

Tailgating

Tailgating is only permitted in general parking (non-preferred) areas (near the Big A, Orangewood, State College and Douglass general parking areas). Only gas/propane grills with fuel-valve turn offs are permitted in the parking lot. Alcohol and on-site catering are prohibited as is early entry into the parking lot for tailgating. The parking lot opens two-and-one-half (2-1/2) hours prior to the start of the game. For additonal information, visit losangeles.angels.mlb.com.

While ballparks like Wrigley Field have Wrigleyville with its myriad bars outside those friendly confines and Boston is surrounded by bars, Angel Stadium is a bit different. But, there are some establishments that are worthwhile to visit for Halo fans. That, however, doesn't mean they aren't taking part in the complete baseball experience for any pre-game festivities. And, luckily most are within walking distance.

Appropriately named The Catch, this restaurant lies directly across the street from Angel Stadium is undoubtedly one of the more popular places to go before a game. With an offering of 20 unique draught beers, signature martinis and happy hour seven days a week, it's no wonder The Catch is known as the Angels Gameday Headquarters even in the off season. Be sure to try the  the OMG Burger that will quite literally make you say "oh my God." It's made with of lean ground chuck, 10 slices of cheddar cheese, half a head of lettuce with tomatoes, onions and is served with a two pound side of fries. Full menu is served only at the bar.

Like The Catch, JT Schmid's is not only popular because of the great food and drinks it offers, but its also just a short distance from the Stadium. In fact, its REALLY close. The menu is full of great eats ranging from blackened mahi tacos and baby back ribs to beer battered fish & chips, a 16oz ribeye, and of course their delicious farm house burger with bacon, cheddar, a fried egg and mayo. Other favorite include their French dip, as well as pizza and more. The restaurant and bar is also well known for their extensive alcohol menu including specialty drinks, as well as beer tails, martinis and pretty much everything you would want. It's a great spot to get ready for a game.

In the mood for tacos? Who isn't, right? Right across the street from the Stadium is Frescas which is your go to place for all things Mexican food. From burritos to tacos, ensaladas, and specialty dishes like their mahi mahi fish tacos to Mexican subs and more, Frescas serves up delicious and tasty food that is perfect to dine on before the game. If the game happens to fall on a Thursday, you're in luck as Thursdays is Taco Thursdays where you'll get a taco for just $1.25.

Just a short walk from the Stadium, Danny K's offers an abundance of big screen TV's in addition to pool tables, foosball, a dart board and shuffleboard. But, not to worry. That's not all they offer. A full bar with a big selection of beers is on tap, as well as food too. Grab some onion rings and their famed burger and you'll be all set before walking over to the game.

Going to an Angels Game is always a popular activity for Orange County and LA residents. You'll even see tourists come to catch the action of the Halos. A variety of seating levels are offered at Angel Stadium. As with most stadiums, the closer you get to the field, the higher the cost of the ticket. Luckily, compared to other stadiums across the country including Dodger Stadium, Fenway Park, Yankee Stadium and others, Angel Stadium is priced quite low for most seats. When it comes to the food selection at Angel Stadium, there is an endless amount of tasty selections to choose from. With Legends Hospitality taking a management role at the stadium (known for their role at Yankee Stadium and others), Angel Stadium has been revamped to include incredible food.

The Smoke Ring Brisket Sandwich

Upon entering one of the main gates of Angel Stadium, you're treated to sweet, sultry smell of barbecue. The cuisine is growing more popular in ballparks across the nation, so it's no surprise that the Angels are capitalizing on that as well. Smoked for 14 hours, the brisket is tender, yet has enough flavor provided by the sauce that you have a warm taste, yet aren't overwhelmed and full, which leaves enough room for the tasty snacks inside. Wash it down with a cold, craft beer from a nearby stand, making for the perfect combination.

Short Rib Grilled Cheese Sandwich

Reconceptualized upon taking over from an underperforming stand, this grilled cheese station is one of the most popular in the entire stadium. Featuring an array of differing takes on this childhood delight, this is one of the more ambitious items available at the stadium, but at the same time, is one of the most rewarding. Savory and fulfilling, there fewer things better than the short rib sandwich. It's delicate blend of grilled short rib meat embedded on a traditional grilled cheese sandwich.

Thick Cut Bacon Grilled Cheese Sandwich

If short rib isn't your thing, then the next thing at the Big Cheese that should fill your palate is the bacon grilled cheese sandwich. Also served on a toasted bun, the bacon grilled is just as tasty and scrumptious as the short rib sandwich but it has bacon, which is always a bonus. It makes for the perfect and tasty meal while rooting for your favorite team.

Melissa's Fresh for You

Healthy options can be hard to find at most ballparks, but Angel Stadium has answered the call for healthy food with Melissa's Fresh For You, available on every level in the park.Pre-made and custom salads, fruit, veggie dogs and veggie burgers abound at Melissa's, with plenty of customization options for every type of eater (although there are still very few options for gluten-free diners). New for 2015, don't miss the Acai Bowl made with bananas, strawberries, granola, and honey. The hummus platter is another fabulous light option.

Nachos

Fans love going home with a batting helmet and visiting Angel Stadium is no exception. The nachos, which come in a batting helmet come in three different sizes that allow you to stuff your face full of Tostitos along with delicious cheese and toppings. Of course, there's the biggest size, which will cost you $14, but you'll be stuffed to brim with it's blend of guacamole, red peppers, sour cream and beef. And yes, you get to keep the helmet it comes in, which many fans wash off in the bathroom and plop on their heads upon finishing their snack.

Carne Asada Fries

Located on the field level, fry stand Spuds is focused on taking the traditional ballpark French Fries and adding a different element that attracts more refined fans who want more than the traditional fries with ketchup. Here, you could order the delicious, filling carne asada waffle fries. The portion is easily good enough to feed two, and with guacamole, sour cream, peppers and cheese to go along with the beef, this side is more than enough to fill you up so you won't need any more food until the later innings.

Cinnamon & Sugar Sweet Fries

If you want a lighter type of french fries then this is for you. The fries are smooth and tasty and there's a certain delightful feeling that comes with eating cinnamon. When mimed with sugar to top these sweet fries, you'll be happy to relive that moment time and time again.

The Knothole Club Cheeseburger

If fans are on a date, or prefer fine dining, then the Knothole Club along the right field foul line is the place to be. The area, which is located in the club section, is available to the public after the first pitch. To make things easy, the restaurant takes reservations on OpenTable, which could score you one of the few coveted slots outdoors. The cheeseburger is an absolute gem, with a soft brioche bun and just enough cheese and the traditional veggies to keep things interesting. But, it's the perfectly cooked patty that will tickle your senses.

The Knothole Club Hot Dog

On top of the outstanding hamburger, there's also a themed hot dog that coincides with an element from the visiting team's city. The staff takes great consideration in to putting together an ambitious hot dog that pays attention to the tiniest details, and turns a ballpark institution into an eventful dining experience. With toppings galore, it's one of the tastiest treats Angel Stadium is serving up.

Shock Top Brew Pub
Formerly the Knothole Club (the stadium sold its rights), The Shock Top Brew Pub, you must have club level tickets to get to this eatery. Located in the right field on the club level, the indoor/outdoor gastropub is pretty much the same spot as the Knothole including a full service bar, a tri-level patio, and a dining room with breathtaking views of the field. Eats here include a French dip sandwich, cheeseburgers, fries, and other pub type food. Note: this full-service pub is reserved for club level ticket holders, but after the first inning, they open the doors to everyone. Score!

The Diamond Club
For more of an upscale experience, the Diamond Club is the ultimate choice. Offering outdoor seating, it is located on the field level behind home plate with terrific views of the game. Whether you are feeling sophisticated or want to get your booty on the dance floor, the Diamond Club has it. Featuring a dining room, bar, dance floor, patio and club seats, drop the kids at Chuck E Cheese and plan your next party, wedding or family gathering here. Best eats here include items like sirloin steak sandwiches, salads, desserts and a full bar.

Homeplate Club
Located on the Club Level, this indoor restaurant overlooks the main entrance to the ballpark and features an atmosphere that is friendly to business. As the largest of the three clubs, the space is perfect for corporate events such as meetings, training sessions, holiday parties and other special events, and you can also book corporate events during the off season. With its open design, the Home Plate Club offers ample space for your guests to mix and mingle, all while enjoying great food and ambiance.

During Angels off-season, you're invited to take a behind the scenes tour of Angel Stadium, giving you unrivaled access to the Mike Scioscia interview room, the Angels Dugout, the Visitor Clubhouse, the Broadcasting booth, the Press Confernece Room, the Dugout suite and other parts of the stadium that are normally restricted to the public. Other highlights of the 75 minute tour include a trip to the field as well as an exclusive look at the Gene Autry Suite. The cost is inexpensive too, just $8 for adults, $6 for children (14 or under) and children under the age of 4 get in free. Seniors and Military get in for just $6.
