Some Shoppers Get An Early Start On Black Friday Deals

By Pat Loeb

KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa., (CBS) -- Black Friday is a term first coined in Philadelphia in the 1960's, to describe the rush of shoppers who tried to get their Christmas shopping done on the day after Thanksgiving and the region is still a pretty good place to do that, if you're so inclined.

Shoppers were getting in the spirit at the King of Prussia Mall.

Black Friday shopping is not for the faint of heart, according to bargain hunter Michael.

"Each store opened up according to different hours. Some open up at 6, 5 am, some midnight, some start at 6 on Thursday, so you got to plan, strategize," said Michael.

But some, like Cindy May and daughter Trisha, are just in it for the experience.

"Last year was pretty hectic, this year I'm hoping it's the same way. It's fun."

For Eli Sothern and McKenzie Hughes, it was a date.

"I've never been Black Friday shopping and he was so excited to take me."

"I had a really good experience doing it before, save a lot of money."

Saving money is the biggest reason people give for venturing out -- and spending money.
