N.W.A. And Janet Jackson Lead 2016 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Nominees

By Michael Cerio

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- 2015 has been a big year for a woman from Gary, Indiana and a group 'Straight Outta Compton'. Janet Jackson and N.W.A. both made triumphant returns this year with Jackson's first album in eight years and the rap group's biopic being one of the biggest things at the box office this summer despite a lack of dinosaurs and spandex.

Both now also lead a list of nominees for the 2016 class of the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. You have to imagine both get in - Janet for her iconic status and amazing staying power, and N.W.A. for setting the tone for a decade-plus of Hip Hop. N.W.A. has been on the ballot before, but now that they have gotten a second wind of relevance with a movie, they seem much more likely.

Joining them as nominees this year are The Cars, Chic, Chicago, Cheap Trick, Deep Purple, The J.B.'s, Chaka Khan, Los Lobos, Steve Miller, Nine Inch Nails, The Smiths, The Spinners, and Yes.

Again this year, there will be a fan vote considered as the Hall makes its final selection. You can vote now at RockHall.com. You have until December 9th to vote, and the inductees will be announced later in December.
