Shawne Merriman Talks About His "Lights On" Foundation

Shawne Merriman from BIG 10 Network joins The Scott Garceau Show with Jeremy Conn and Bob Haynie to discuss Terps football and his 12th annual coat drive. This is the 12th year Shawne Merriman's charity "Lights on Foundation" coat drive has been in effect at the University of Maryland. Over the years he has helped out so many people that go through the harsh winter months without adequate winter wear. "I always said if I was ever in a position to help I would and here I am 12 years later." Lightly used coats, winter weather clothes and other donations can be dropped off at the North and South entrance at The Byrd Stadium in College Park.  Merriman says he will also be giving autographs as well as others with the BIG 10 network an hour before game starts.

University of Maryland is now a BIG 10 school and they are holding their own.  When asked his thoughts about the Terps move to the BIG 10, he stated, "like many of us, I couldn't understand, but it will actually help and it is on the upside. A lot of the big 10 fans and followers didn't really know anything about Maryland, but now they are getting some respect." The Terps are currently 3rd in the East Division of the BIG 10 conference.

The Terps play Michigan State on Saturday at home. The Spartans are currently 2nd in the East Division and watching the last game they played Merriman states, "watching Michigan State I saw something I had never seen before, I saw them giving up. He says when CJ Brown, quarterback for the Terps, is down it is hard for him to get out of making a lot of mistakes. But, he is capable of stepping up and making a difference because, "when he plays well and executes plays he is a good starting quarterback and good leader." Returning the punts is also going to be a necessity for the Terps against Michigan State.
