Woman Fends Off Alleged Robber With Hair Straightener

UNIONTOWN (KDKA) -- A man walked into a Fayette County house unannounced and uninvited early Thursday morning.

It wasn't the home of a total stranger since the suspect and the woman who lived there once had a relationship and a child.

However, the intruder ended up getting more than he bargained for.

Kameshia Ford hit 45-year-old David Sims over the head with a hair straighter after he walked into the home at 3 a.m. and confronted her and her boyfriend, armed with a kitchen knife.

He reportedly wanted to rob them.

Sims faces multiple charges and is jailed on $50,000 bond.

Lt. Thomas Kolencik, of Uniontown City Police, says Ford will not be charged because she was defending herself and her family.

Ford told KDKA-TV's Ralph Iannotti, "My first instinct was to protect my family and loved ones, and I'd do it again if I had to."
