DNA Tests Identify Remains Found Near Victorville As McStay Children

VICTORVILLE (CBSLA.com) — Officials on Friday confirmed that the skeletal remains of two children found near Victorville are those of Joseph M. and Gianni McStay.

Last week, using dental records, authorities confirmed the adult remains belonged to the children's parents -- 40-year-old Joseph and 43-year-old Summer McStay.

The McStays went missing nearly four years ago.  The family left their Fallbrook home in February 2010 and was never heard from again.

The McStays left their home, seemingly, in a hurry. Investigators said there was no sign of a struggle in the upscale home and that there were even two bowls of freshly popped popcorn in the living room.  The family also left two pet dogs behind.

While video surfaced of a family of four crossing the border into Mexico, family members never believed the McStays were the four seen on the tape.

The FBI took over the case this past May.

The investigation into the homicide is ongoing.
