Bicyclist Struck By Vehicle, Killed In Hays

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A man riding his bicycle home from work was struck by a car and killed on Baldwin Road in the Hays section of the city.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office has identified the victim as 57-year-old Jeffrey Zietak of Pittsburgh. He is a former Pittsburgh firefighter.

Police say Zietak's car had broken down, so he was riding the bike back and forth to work on nearby Streets Run Road.

Police he was struck by a car and thrown into the windshield and up over the vehicle.

Officials say the cause of death was fractures to the skull from blunt force trauma, as well as fracture of the cervical spine.

The driver of the car has not been charged with anything.

A witness who saw Zietak before the crash tells police that it appeared that Zietak was having trouble on the bike and wobbling.

Police are investigating the accident.
