AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) - A man linked to last week's frightening attempted kidnapping in Aurora is behind bars on a $600,000 bond.

Johnathan Snorksy appeared in Arapahoe County Court via videoconference Monday morning on charges related to theft and false reporting, but he's also linked to the kidnapping attempt of an 8-year-old girl last week.

Police believe Snorksy, 26, is the man who snatched the girl through a window from her bed while she was sleeping in Aurora on Oct. 28. The girl managed to get away soon afterwards and ran screaming to her father in the alley behind her house.

An arrest affadavit in the case before a judge on Monday details the theft and false reporting charges against Snorksy, saying he was taken into custody last week after he allegedly stole more than $57,000 worth of jewelry and cash from his 72-year-old roommate in early September.

Beatrice Padilla, the grandmother of the girl who was yanked from her bedroom, attended Snorksy's Monday court hearing. She said she wanted to see Snorksy's face.

"I wanted to cry ... but she's okay, we're okay. We'll be okay. Thanks for your prayers and the community for helping catch him," she said.

Padilla says she has since bought her granddaughter a cellphone for safety.

She also says she is surprised that Aurora police were able to arrest a suspect so quickly.

Authorities in Aurora say they will present their case against Snorksy related to the kidnapping to the district attorney on Tuesday.
