Police: Suspect Robbed, Slashed, Punched Cab Driver In The Bronx

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police are searching for a suspect who they say robbed, punched and slashed a taxi driver with a box cutter in the Bronx.

It happened Saturday on the Grand Concourse.

The cabbie picked up a man in Manhattan and drove him to the Bronx, where the passenger told him they were at the wrong location, police said.

When the driver asked to be paid before taking him to the correct address, police said the suspect threw money at the driver, punched him in the face and then broke the passenger side window.

The suspect then walked to the driver's side, punched the cab driver again and cut him on the wrist and back with a box cutter, police said.

The suspect took back his money and slashed the two front tires of the cab before fleeing, police said.

The cabbie was taken to the hospital where he was treated for his injuries and released.

Cops describe the suspect as a Hispanic male in his 20s, about 5-feet-9-inches tall weighing around 180 pounds with brown eyes, dark hair and a light complexion. He was wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.

Police said he was spotted on surveillance video prior to the incident.
