Sketch Released Of Man Who Attacked Miami Girl

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Miami police detectives canvassed a neighborhood Wednesday morning looking for help in finding a man who attacked a 12-year old girl as she walked home from school.

Police handed out a sketch of the man, and a back pack he was wearing, in hopes that someone recognized him or at least remembered seeing him in the area of NW 11th Avenue and 32nd Street on November 14th.

On that day, around 4:40 p.m. police said he approached the girl and began touching her face. When she protested, he threw his right arm around her shoulders, covered her mouth and dragged her down the street to a vacant home.

The girl fought back and was eventually able to break free and run off.

Neighbors said they were upset after hearing about the attack.

"I have four grand babies coming to visit Thanksgiving week, so it's very concerning," said Verna Smith.

"It's very scary, I am in shock," said Wendolyne Rivera.

Rivera, who walks to the bus stop every day, said she's now following her parents' rules.

"They tell me 'Be careful, watch out, look around your back and if somebody is talking to you walk away'," said Rivera.

Police believe the man they are looking for lives nearby.

"We don't know if this individual may be watching us now," said Miami police Sgt Freddie Cruz as officers went door to door. "He may be a member of this community, we need the communities help. We need them to come forward give us any information, any tips that could help us capture this is individual."

Anyone with information about the man is urged to call the Miami Police Department Special Victims Unit at (305) 603-6300 or Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
