Mayor Garcetti, DWP Union Leaders Reach Agreement On New Contract

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — An agreement has been reached between the city and the union representing workers at the Department of Water and Power, Mayor Eric Garcetti announced Wednesday evening.

"I'm pleased that we reached an agreement that pushes forward with DWP reform. I look forward to joining with the Council President and the City Council to announce further details on Thursday," Garcetti said.

Further details will be announced at an 11:30 a.m. news conference, Garcetti said.

In a private memo to the City Council, dated Tuesday, City Administrative Officer Miguel Santana laid out revised terms of a "tentative agreement with" the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 18's chief negotiator" that includes locking down the 2016 cost-of-living raise at 2 percent.

This would prevent any cost-of-living raises from jumping higher if the inflation rate increases four years from now. Santana said this measure could save the city another $10 million over the next four years.

Other revised terms include reducing the entry-level salaries for 34 positions common between DWP and the city, instead of the 28 that were previously proposed, saving an added $5.4 million on top of $10.7 million.
