With Rahim Moore Placed On IR, Mike Adams Ready To Step Up

DENVER (CBS4) - With Broncos safety Rahim Moore leaving Sunday's game against the Chiefs complaining of leg pain and then having to undergo emergency surgery Monday morning, Mike Adams had to step in and now will be filling in the rest of the regular season after Moore was placed on recallable injured reserve on Tuesday.

Surgery was performed on Moore for a condition known as lateral compartment syndrome that can cost patients a limb or even their life. He won't be eligible to return to the team for six weeks, which would be the AFC Championship game if the team makes it that far in the postseason.

"I'm pretty sure he'll be okay. Thank God they caught it and he ended up getting the surgery and getting everything done," Adams said on Xfinity Monday Live! "Hopefully he'll get a fast, speedy recovery."

Adams said Moore told him during warm-ups on Sunday to be ready because he was feeling a little sore.

"I was like, 'Okay, alright.' I'm thinking to myself, 'He'll be all right, just play through it, we all get sore.' I didn't think anything of it, but it turned out to be something very serious," Adams said.

Adams has plenty of experience. He started last year and made several nice plays against the Chiefs on Sunday.

"You can't forget how to ride (a bike)," he said.

Last year Adams' counterpart at safety was Moore. It will now be Duke Ihenacho, who Adams says plays similar to his style.

"We're more interchangeable … I can be down, he can be down. I can be back, he can be back. So I'm looking forward to giving other teams problems because they don't know and will try to figure out who's down, and who's back," Adams said.

The Broncos will play back-to-back Sunday night games on national television when the face the New England Patriots next week. It will be the first time the Patriots have been underdogs at home since 2005. Still, Adams knows with Tom Brady at the helm he'll have his work cut out for him.

"Oh, that guy? He's pretty good. He's not bad at all," Adams joked. "And the receiving core, they don't have the biggest names … but they're making plays … they're good and they're fast. He's making everyone around him better."

Kickoff is at 6:30 p.m.
