EAST HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — An elderly man died after being stabbed Monday on the Metro Red Line in East Hollywood.

Two men reportedly got into an altercation when one took out a knife and stabbed the other at 9:18 a.m. near the Vermont/Santa Monica Station, Metro officials said.

The suspect left the train and fled on foot.

The victim, who was reportedly stabbed in the neck, was transported in grave condition to County USC Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 6:36 p.m.

The station was shut down briefly but reopened at 11:13 a.m. The Red Line was experiencing 15-minute delays as trains were forced to share a single track.
