Gov. Chris Christie Declares State Of Emergency In New Jersey
TRENTON, N.J. (CBS) -- Due to the intense and dangerous winter storm, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has issued a State of Emergency.
In a message posted on Christie's official Twitter account, Christie wrote: "Just like last time, I encourage everyone, if possible, to stay off the roads so that our officials can safely respond to any emergencies."
By declaring a State of Emergency, the State Director of Emergency Management is authorized to activate and coordinate the preparation, response and recovery efforts for the storm with all county and municipal emergency operations and governmental agencies.
"Today's winter storm is expected to produce heavy snow, dangerous conditions and travel hazards throughout the state," said Governor Christie. "I've authorized state officials to take all necessary action to prepare, and my Administration will continue monitoring conditions throughout the remainder of the storm. I encourage all New Jerseyans to stay off the roads if possible so that our first responders and public safety officials can safely respond to any emergency situations."
