Mondavi Center sets the stage for this science-fiction comic book turned live performance piece. "Robot Planet Rising" is a sequel to "An Intergalactic Nemesis," presented last year at Mondavi, but audience members will be able to enjoy the sequel even if they missed the original. "Robot Planet" includes sound effects by a Foley artist, a cinematic musical score played on piano, three actors, a multitude of characters and nearly 1,300 high-resolution, full color comic book panels on a movie screen.

One of the most iconic images of Hollywood musicals is that of Gene Kelly in a trench coat and hat, swinging around a light pole with his umbrella. El Dorado Musical Theatre's version of the Tony award-winning musical is presented by talented local performers between the ages of 13-22. "Singin' in the Rain" is a fun and whimsical look at entertainment during the 1920s, as silent film stars try to make it in talkies. Witty dialogue, incredible song and dance hijinks, true friendship and a sweet love story are part of this lighthearted romp. In addition to the title song, musical numbers include "Make 'Em Laugh," "All I Do Is Dream of You," "Moses Supposes" and the ever-catchy "Good Morning."

If you have never gone to "see" a movie and been blindfolded before it begins, you have not experienced the work of Daniel Marcus Clark. Clark, founder of EarFilms, brings his first feature-length film, "To Sleep, To Dream," to the Vanderhoef Studio Theatre at UC Davis. Through immersion into 3D music and sound, blindfolded audience members become part of an intense, otherworldly story that takes place 40+ years in the future. The filmmaker offers the opportunity to step away from the screen and into your imagination, via Jack Richards, a man trying to survive and make sense of the supremely controlled society in which he lives.

Open to teenagers and children of all ages, the 10th annual Kids Art Festival aims to introduce and encourage participation in the arts. "Thrill-ma-geddon" is a hilarious send-up of the Shakespearean tragedy, and is performed by 12- to 18-year-old students from the Young Professionals Conservatory at Sacramento Theatre Company's School of the Arts. The tale surrounds a drama club's attempts to survive budget cuts by staging a more commercialized and corporate-sponsored version of "Hamlet." The classic drama is turned upside-down with additions including a musical score, complete with back-up dancers, and fiery battles with post-apocalyptic zombies.
