Ford Program Uses An Impairment Suit To Teach Students The Unnerving Effects Of Driving Drunk

SOUTHFIELD (CBS DETROIT) - Ford is working hard to get the message out to students about the dangers of drinking and driving. Not by textbooks or lecturing, but by experience.

Kyle Green, Program Manager for Ford Driving Skills For Life says the goal of their program is to show students how it would be to drive drunk. Not by watching, but by actually doing it in a simulation.

Weights, tightly fitting cuffs and collars to restrict movement, ear muffs and goggles work together to impair your vision and motor control to a level similar to being under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

WWJ Newsradio weekend anchor Brooke Allen participated in the demonstration taking a field sobriety test from trooper Mark Kellar. Needless to say Allen failed miserably and got a visit to the back of a cruiser to let the lesson hit home.
