Cold Spell Comes To A Close, Temperatures To Rise This Weekend

By Kate Bilo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Talk about a week of temperature swings! The average high temperature of this past Sunday through Tuesday was 77 degrees. The average high temperature for Wednesday through Friday? Just 52. That's a 25 degree difference!

The good news is that the cold spell is coming to a close, and temperatures will be rising through the weekend and into next week. While not as mild as last weekend, temperatures will be close to average and we'll see lots of sun through the holiday weekend, making for a pleasant Easter holiday for travelers and egg hunters!

One thing to watch is a system off to the south which is going to bring rain and wind to the southeastern US coast through the weekend. While the main impacts of this system miss us to the south, winds around the strengthening low will pick up on Sunday, meaning a chilly breeze will be felt in the afternoon. This is another east wind situation, so I wouldn't be surprised if shore points end up cooler and windy for Easter Sunday, even as we warm to the mid-60's inland.

The daily breakdown:

  • Saturday is mostly sunny and pleasant with a light North wind, the high 67.
  • Easter Sunday is mostly sunny and turning breezy with a high of 64. Cooler at the coast.
  • Monday is mostly sunny and even milder, with a high near 70.
