911 Caller Unaware Twin Toddlers Who Nearly Drowned Were Her Kids

SUNRISE (CBSMiami) -- The mother of twin toddlers, who nearly drowned in a Sunrise pool, called 911 for help without realizing the kids in the water were actually her own.

According to Sunrise police, Althea Bradford, called 911 Thursday morning to report two children were floating in the pool at the Springtree apartment complex at 3500 NW 85th Way.

Bradford, who works as the property manager for the complex, learned after the call, that the limp bodies found in the pool were her twin two year-old toddlers, Jada and Henry Roman.

She didn't know they were her kids until moments after the first police officer and firefighter arrived and pulled the toddlers out.

Sunrise Police say both children remain in critical condition at Plantation General Hospital.

According to police, the children were under the care of a resident in the complex at the time they were found in the pool. It's still not known how they ended up in the water.

Neighbors were stunned.

"I don't know what to say," said Ericilda Joseph. "I'm just praying for them, I'm praying for them. That's all I can do, pray that God has them."

Sunrise police and fire rescue arrived quickly.

"An officer and firefighter were the first to arrive and they were able to remove the children from the pool and administer CPR," said police spokeswoman Cindi McCue.

The twins, who were not breathing, went into cardiac arrest, according to officials.

Residents of the complex said the twins seemed like happy, playful children.

"They follow behind each other just like one do one, they just, you know, that's what little kids do. Very active, you always have to keep your eyes on them," said Ramon Witherspoon.

Investigators are still trying to figure out how the children got into the gated pool area.
