1 Injured In Strawberry Mansion Building Collapse

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Chopper 3 over the scene of a building collapse that left one person injured in Philadelphia's Strawberry Mansion neighborhood.

The incident was reported shortly after 9 p.m. Monday in the 2600 block of Myrtlewood Street.

Residents CBS 3 spoke with say this corner home has been condemned and vacant for years with a tree growing through the house.

A neighborhood block rocked by a building collapse that sent wood, brick and debris falling on to the street and this parked car.

"The car has been there. I park there every time I come home," car owner Joe Dennis said.

Owned by Joe Dennis who was relieved he wasn't inside when the wall gave way.

"It's a blessing. That's a blessing all day," he said.

"I've been worried a lot," Nicole Hancock said.

Hancock has lived on Myrtlewood Street for more than 30 years. She says she is saddened to hear a passerby was hurt, calling this a disaster waiting to happen.

"This has been sitting here for 10, 15 years like that. After the people that lived in there left. Then after five years later they put a sign that says 'No Trespassing.' They probably knew this house was going to shift eventually," she said.

Residents CBS 3 spoke with claim they have called numerous times to complain about this property.

At the scene, CBS 3 got no comment from L&I. CBS3 has also called into the office and has not yet heard back.

CBS 3 is told a passerby was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

The American Red Cross is helping three adults displaced from a neighboring home.  The Red Cross says they were ordered to leave as a precaution.

The incident is under investigation.
