Good Day Insider: 'Brick House'
If you watch the show on a regular basis, then you already know there are themes, jokes, sayings, funny voices, songs, outfits -- tons of them -- that have continued over the years. These add to the fun and zaniness of Good Day, but leave some newer viewers asking, "what the heck is that?" (another saying).
If you want to unlock the secrets and stories behind Good Day, then look no further than the Good Day Insider. It's a new feature that helps to explain how things got started and why we think they're so darn awesome.
Let's get right to it, then! The first topic is "Brick House". This 1977 song hit by the Commodores is an excellent dance tune and always gets the cast in the mood to boogie -- especially Courtney.
Every Friday since who knows when, at a minute before the show goes off the air, we have the Friday Dance Party. The music starts and the cast, reporters and guests dance, or should I say, try to dance (common moves include the running man, the sprinkler and the funky chicken). The camera shots jump around quite a bit. But on days when we play "Brick House", the camera goes to Courtney and all eyes are glued. Why? Because she has the moves down! She has this hand-swinging, hip-moving, head-bobbing thing with just the right amount of attitude that just....works. She really gets into it; and we can't help but watch because you know she's doing what she loves and she's good at it.
Speaking of dancing, Courtney, who sometimes goes by just "Court" for short, and Tina did a funny bit a few years ago and re-created the "Maniac" dance scene from "Flashdance". You know, the one when the girl lies back in the chair and gets the water dumped on her....just watch it at the start of the following clip.
A classically trained dancer, Courtney also knows ballet. She's taken us to her practices and, I'm guessing one or two of her performances or two over the years. Let's face it, we all secretly wish we had her moves. That's just one of the things that makes her awesome!
