White Sox OF Garcia Undergoes Surgery On Left Shoulder

(CBS) White Sox outfielder Avisail Garcia had "successful" surgery this morning to repair the torn labrum and avulsion fracture in his left shoulder that will keep him out for the rest of the 2014 season, the team announced.

The 22-year-old Garcia suffered the injury last Wednesday trying to make a diving catch against the Rockies, and a day later it was announced he'll be out the remainder of the year. He underwent the surgery at Rush Oak Park Hospital, and it was performed by a team of surgeons that was led by Dr. Anthony Romeo.

Garcia is expected to be fully healthy for the start of spring training in 2015. He was hitting .267 with two homers, four RBIs and six runs scored in eight games for the White Sox, and his absence is a big blow, as he was expected by some to be a breakout player this season.
